Primary school river lessons now available online

3rd April 2020 - General Catchment

We can’t run our river education sessions in primary schools at the moment, so we’re bringing the classroom to you!

Cathy Gruba, our Learning and Engagement Officer, has filmed a series of lessons that you can watch on our website or Youtube channel. The River School episodes are based on the sessions she normally delivers in classrooms and help deliver Key Stage 2 Science and Geography.

Cathy said: “We’ll be back in local schools as soon as possible. Until then, I hope these videos help parents currently home-schooling their children - it’s always wonderful to see the enthusiasm the kids have for the fantastic habitats we have here in Cumbria.”

We’ve been running one and two-days primary school sessions for a number of years now and in 2019 a record 1,984 children took part. These sessions are free to schools in Copeland and Allerdale thanks to the generous support of our funders, United Utilities, Sellafield Ltd, and the Garfield Weston Foundation.
