We need volunteers to help with a project aiming to reduce flood risk in the village of Flimby.
Our new Flimby volunteer group will go out once a month to do activities such as tree planting and drain clearance. The work is part of a wider natural flood management project. We’re working with landowners to install features that will hold water in the landscape for longer after storms, reducing the rate at which it runs downstream.
Chris West, Project Officer, said: “Lots of small environmental improvements can add up to have a real impact on flooding, and as a charity our volunteers make a huge difference to the amount we can achieve.”
The Flimby events take place from 9.30am to 3.30pm on the first Thursday of each month, with the next one on Thursday 7 November. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Flimby Sports and Social Club on Chapel Street, bringing waterproofs, sturdy footwear and lunch.
We’re working in partnership with the Environment Agency, which is also providing funding for the Flimby project.
