Location: Keswick Convention Centre, Skiddaw Street, Keswick, CA12 4BY (but a flexible approach will be required as much of the time will be spent out in the field)

Duration: Permanent

West Cumbria Rivers Trust is an environmental charity dedicated to improving the watercourses, their wildlife, and surrounding catchments in West Cumbria for people and wildlife. Our patch covers several principal river catchments and seven iconic lakes spanning a substantial part of the Lake District National Park, West Cumbria, and the Solway. We have an impressive track record of successful delivery of projects.

Working closely with existing members of our team, you will help develop and deliver projects to restore watercourses, improve water quality, reduce flood risk, improve catchment biodiversity, and connect people with the natural environment. This will include woodland creation, hedge planting, installing natural flood management features and creating ponds. You will work closely with farmers, contractors, volunteers, and partner organisations to deliver projects from inception to completion, with support from Project Officers. Practical conservation tasks will form a substantial part of the role alongside project management tasks.

West Cumbria Rivers Trust carry out a range of monitoring activities to inform where to focus future work and to assess the success of projects after they have been delivered. You will support our existing monitoring programmes including vegetation surveys, air quality sampling and butterfly surveys.

The successful candidate will be able to work with farmers to develop projects, have a degree in a relevant field, some relevant work experience and be willing to use their initiative with support from others. It is ideally suited to someone looking to develop further skills and experience in the conservation sector and someone who is interested in managing projects of their own in the future.

This is an exciting opportunity with no two days likely to be the same. The successful candidate will be part of a friendly, passionate and helpful team, reporting to a Project Manager and supported by the wider staff team.

If you believe that you have the passion, commitment and skills to take this exciting opportunity forward then we would like to hear from you.
