Do you have a budding conservationist who would like to do something great for nature? Bring them along to our balsam bash at Longlands Lake
When: Fri 22 August 1pm-3pm
Where: Longlands Lake, Egremont
What: Himalayan balsam is an invasive plant that spreads easily around rivers and lakes. It is having a devastating impact on wildlife- both plants and animals. We are on a mission to get it under control, and we need as many hands as possible for a 'balsam bash'.
No experience needed! It's an easy and straightforward fun* task and we'll tell you all you need to know. You'll basically be pulling the balsam out of the ground and giving it a good stomp on the ground.
* We decided to run this event after the HUGE success of a recent balsam bash with Bookwell School in Egremont. The children enjoyed it so much they asked for more opportunities! One child even said it was more fun that his Xbox- proof that balsam bashing is FUN!
Wear clothing suitable for the weather on the day, that you’re not overly precious about and sturdy boots/wellies. Long sleeves and trousers are really important for all participants to help protect against brambles and nettles.
Who: Suitable for ages 7+
This event is free but places are limited so please make sure you book.
