Foraging and Himalayan Balsam Bashing

  • Wiza Beck Barton Laws CA7 9RG United Kingdom (map)

Come and learn how to forage and help nature by doing some Himalayan Balsam bashing

When: Saturday 28th June 10am - 1pm

Where: Wiza Beck, Wigton CA7 9RG

What: The first hour and half we will have a look at which edible plants can be found in the wild and which taste the best. Then we will spend about an hour pulling out the non-native invasive plant Himalayan Balsam to allow a more varied vegetation to return. After that, you'll be able to taste some of our foraged food.

Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring wellies or shoes you don't mind getting wet (we will wade through Wiza Beck to get to the Himalayan Balsam).

This event is organised together with Wildlife for Wigton and is part of a weekend where Cumbria Biodiversity Data Centre will encourage people to record species of wildlife and plants on Sunday 29 June in  Throstle Park.

Download INaturalist if you would like to record what we find.

Who: Suitable for aged 12+ (Under 18’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian)

Notes: There are no toilet facilities on site.

Cost: This event is free but booking is essential

With thanks to our funders: Cumbria Community Foundation
