Practical conservation
We carry out a lot of practical conservation work and the tasks are often seasonal. Here is an outline of those which are most suitable for larger groups:
- Tree planting: This happens in the winter and sites are chosen for their suitability from projects we are already working on.
- Himalayan balsam pulling: Himalayan balsam is an invasive plant that grows by rivers. It is usually controlled by hand-pulling and is a straightforward and satisfying job for all ages. The plant grows in the summer months.
For smaller groups we could also organise a litter-pick or a birdbox making session.
